There are not too many hostels located in the capital of the USA, but the Downtown Washington Hostel provides a great place to have as your base. With such famed sites as the White House and the Abraham Lincoln statue, Washington provides some hidden treasures which might surprise you. My top tip is to visit the Smithsonian museums. They are all free to enter and will teach you a lot about everything.

This is a cosy and homely hostel. They do have a no shoe policy so be prepared to remove your shoes each time you enter the building. The staff are all friendly and most of them are ‘work for accommodation’, but show they actually care about their jobs. It is in a great location only 15 minute walk to Capitol Hill and the start of the ‘Mall’. There is a fully stocked kitchen and fridge to store your food in. The common areas are all on the ground floor allowing people to meet and chat to others with ease. The hostel is close to 8th and H Ne Street, a popular area to have a few drinks.
Itchy Feet Escapades rates the Downtown Washington hostel 4 out of 5 Itchy Feet.
