Country Squire Resort review - 1000 Island region

September 23, 2015

Gananoque is one of the Western towns in the 1000 Island Regions.  It is home to 9500 people and is one of the ports that the boat cruises leave from.  The little main street is quite cute with boutique stores and local cafes.  The highlight of the town is the waterfront viewpoints.  You can spend your time staring in to the distance and imagine owning one of the many islands.

Location: Gananoque, Canada

Date of Stay: September 2015

Price Range: $79 - $149 CAD

The Country Squire Resort and Spa is located a 2 minute drive from the centre of Gananoque and provides a base to explore the Thousand Island region.  It is the first large town from Toronto to host activities for the region.  Remember to check out the 1000Island Region guide to find out more information.

Pro’s

  • Easy to find

  • Next door to a supermarket (No Frills)

  • Indoor swimming pool

  • Complimentary  basic Hot/Continental Breakfast

  • The cleanliness is of a high standard

Con’s

  • The facilities are in need of a renovation

  • No safe in the rooms

  • The breakfast is served on Styrofoam plates.  It is bad for the environment and doesn’t look professional

  • The room and reception had a strong cleaning product smell

  • Pillows were lumpy

Final Thoughts

The Country Squire Resort looks like it is in the same condition as most of the other hotels in the area.  The resort would have been an excellent choice to stay back in its heyday.  If you are looking for a cheap place to stay today, it might be an okay choice.

Itchy Feet Escapades rates the Country Squire resort 3 of 5 Itchy Feet.
