A train trip is not any trip, it is a journey. The following story will give you an insight into the Blue train. A window to the soul of Africa. The journey starts in either Pretoria or Cape Town and snakes its way through the centre of South Africa.
As soon as you step foot onto the moving 5 star hotel, you are greeted with a smile and shown to your room where a fruit platter and a cup of tea or coffee awaits you.
The Blue Train can accommodate up to 80 guests, with each one treated as the most special person on the planet. You can either enjoy the views from your private ensuited room or sip a beverage or two from the club and lounge carriages – only champagne is charged.
Dinner is a suit and tie affair. Bringing the charm and tradition of the era in which it was started back in 1920. But not to worry, the train has had a few refurbishments since then. Electricity, televisions and running hot water have been included.
Each carriage has a butler who will make sure you are well looked after. Whilst you are at dinner, your room will be transformed from a day lounge into a cosy bedroom.
Tipping is usually done at the end of the trip. There is an envelope in which you can tip the whole staff or you can individually tip your butler.
